Summary (as quoted from Goodreads):Beka Cooper is finally a Dog—a full-fledged member of the Provost’s Guard, dedicated to keeping peace in Corus’s streets. But there’s unrest in Tortall’s capital. Counterfeit coins are turning up in shops all over the city, and merchants are raising prices to cover their losses. The Dogs discover that gamblers are bringing the counterfeit money from Port Caynn. In Port Caynn, Beka delves deep into the gambling world, where she meets a charming banking clerk named Dale Rowan. Beka thinks**she may be falling for Rowan, but she won’t let anything—or anyone—jeopardize her mission. As she heads north to an abandoned
silver mine, it won’t be enough for Beka be her usual “terrier” self. She’ll have to learn from Achoo to sniff out the criminals—to be a Bloodhound...

Review:
Another winner from Tamora Pierce, she writes some of the best heroines!! Beka is George Cooper's ancestor (he was the Rogue of the thieves in Alanna's day), so you know that she has to be an interesting lady, struggling to police the capitol's poor and trying to comprehend right from wrong, whether considered legal or not. This is the second book in the series and my favorite characters, Rosto and his band are periferal to the action since Beka and Goodwin travel to a different city to sniff out the counterfeiters. Beka is growing up and growing into herself, learning how best to use her magic, her mind and her job. She is a straight shooter and doesn't lie, in fact she is a little bit like Keladry that way, but with magical powers. The only tough part of the book for me
is the street slang. It takes some getting used to! The action heats up fast and furious and we meet a whole slew of new characters. I am really enjoying this series. 4 stars.
