Summary: (as quoted from Amazon)The City of San Francisco is locked in a grip of fear. A series of occult murders has lead, Inspector Thomas James to a crime scene similar to a murder committed 90 years ago in the once grand Aleris Hotel. A place where power barons of the early 20th Century engaged in witchcraft. Andsilent film stars indulged in the most wicked of sins. A place where no one questions the black smoke that rises from the hotel's incinerators in the middle of the night.
My thoughts:
An Apple for Zoë is definitely for more mature audiences. There is a lot of violence and sexual content in the novel. The story follows a group of detectives searching for an answer to an extremely odd murder. But just when they think they’ve come close to solving the case, more murders occur. In a seemingly unending case of killings, the detectives get stuck in a reoccurring loophole of torture, pain, and their own personal hells. In an extremely well crafted plot, Thomas Amo has created an amazing story of love, death, and interconnection. If your looking for a well written mystery, An Apple for Zoë is the book for you.
5/5
