Summary: (as quoted from Alyson Noël’s website) Having solved the matter of the Radiant Boy, Riley, Buttercup, and Bodhi are enjoying a well-deserved vacation. When Riley comes across a young ghost named Rebecca, Riley soon learns Rebecca's not at all what she sees. The daughter of a former plantation owner, she is furious about being murdered during a slave revolt in 1733. Mired in her own anger, Rebecca is keeping the ghosts who died along with her trapped in their worst memories. Can Riley help Rebecca without losing herself to her own nightmarish memories?

My thoughts:
Alyson Noël never fails to captivate me with her storytelling. Shimmer picks up right where Radiance left off, with Riley, Bodhi, and Buttercup on vacation. When Riley sees a dead dog that has not yet crossed over into the other realm, she decides to help it. Soon after she meets the dog, Riley meets Rebecca, the dog’s owner. The action really starts when Riley takes on the challenge of crossing Rebecca over to the next world, for through Rebecca’s sweet personality, she harbors deep, dark secrets that threaten to destroy everyone around her. One of the things I really loved about Shimmer was that main character Riley doesn’t have any problem following her instincts even though she is only twelve and even though her actions might cost her everything she loves. Noël also adds a bit of history, as the ghosts in the story were murdered in a 1733 slave revolt. A perfect blend of comedy and action, Shimmer is an easy, light read that readers of all ages can enjoy.

How awesome is this - I just read my first by Alyson Noel, Evermore, and when I was checking out this book and its predecessor I was so please to see it was about Ever's sister. Thank you for sharing today, I might not have looked up this one thinking it might be a little young - but hey I love the characters.
